Step up to the bar in the Catts Inn in the High Street and you’re likely to find yourself drinking elbow to elbow with a Rotherfield villager.
Landlord Fred plays an active part in supporting local causes, and his regulars fill the Catts most lunchtimes and evenings. Fred’s Sausage Club meets weekly to consume a tasty meal of local sausages and mash, all for the princely sum of £2!
A friendly ghost is rumoured to be a regular visitor to the King’s Arms which occupies a prime location on the corner of the High Street and Station Road. This spacious 17th century country pub and restaurant boasts a 30-seater dining area and two bars.
If you fancy a game of pool or a fling on the slot machine, the public bar’s the one for you. The adjoining saloon bar has comfortable chesterfield sofas in which to lounge around and idle away and hour or two in the cosiest of surroundings. Both bars have eating areas where you can enjoy a pub meal, ordering ‘specials’ off the blackboard or a bigger selection from the a la carte menu.
The pubs in the village serve a variety of local ales including (our favourite) Harveys, a glorious pint from the legendary East Sussex brewers. No visit to Rotherfield is complete without a taste of Harveys!
A mile up the road (but still in the parish) is the Mark Cross Inn & Restaurant, situated just off the main A267 road to Eastbourne.
The Mark Cross Inn is a beautiful old English Inn, situated in the tiny village of Mark Cross. It is surrounded by wonderful open views of the East Sussex countryside, some of the best views in the area. The Inn is now privately owned by Roger & Lyn, who took over the Inn in 1997, after carrying out extensive refurbishment of the bars & restaurants to return the pub to its former Old Inn style of yester-year including traditional cask conditioned real ales to compliment the excellent range of mouth watering food
Any of the pubs provides a good starting and finishing point for a walk in the surrounding countryside.
